Merry Christmas

What does AP Literature want for Christmas?

24 comments:

  1. Oh boy, this is going to be interesting.

I don't know how I'm supposed to write this in blog notation, so it's time to wing it.

The only thing I can think of right now that I want is a guitar. It has to, as my friend told me, have a "spruce top, rosewood body, and a mahogany neck." And he thinks I can just find one of these effortlessly. He has one he bought for $900 bucks, so it looks like I'm probably not getting that. But anyways it would be nice to get a guitar. Mine has a dent in it because way back when in April my brother wrestled on top of it with his friend, so now it looks awful. But hey you get the point.

The second thing I want is a hard case for my guitar, and a guitar stand. Basically an accessories pack. Why? I don't know frankly. Maybe when I get out of high school and end up who knows where I can carry it around like a boss, the hard case that is. I always wanted a guitar stand to put the guitar on instead of putting it on a couch, so that would be pretty cool too.

That's pretty much all I want for Christmas, but since this blog has to be longer, I'll expand. The third thing... Hmmm. If there was anything else I wanted it would probably be a weekend in another city, highlighted by watching a sporting event. When I was little my brother, my cousin, my uncle, my dad, and I went to Cleveland for a weekend to go see a basketball game. They were actually good back then, so we won. But the weekend was really fun and we had a blast.

If there was anything else I wanted it might be a set of beats, a ticket oak, a money tree, skills to be somewhat good at basketball, or maybe a flying pig. Why I would want a flying pig? Why not?? Who doesn't want a flying pig?

Anyways that's my spiel for the day. Well, hope everyone has a good Christmas and gets lots of money!!
...Just kidding, just get what you want and I probably won't care about the rest. Well Merry Christmas!

    1. Matt,

As always I love your blog. I hope you get your guitar for Christmas and I hope that you get your flying pig. But I don't think that the flying pig will happen, but I must admit it would be pretty cool. A money tree would also be really nice but I doubt that that will happen either. Well I hope you get everything else. Merry Christmas!

    2. Matt Bobby,
You always make me laugh in your blog! Who doesn’t want a flying pig? I hope that you get your new guitar for Christmas. Wouldn’t that be an awesome surprise to see when you wake up Christmas morning. Have a good Christmas, and I hope you get your flying pig!

    4. Matt Bobby,

I think that the guitar that you showed me was pretty awesome, so I think that it would be sweet if you got it. The accessories would also be a great addition. Nice job, and have a Great Christmas.

  2. Well I want a new softball bat for Christmas and unfortunately I already know exactly what I got because I picked out. However, my bat is from somewhere in Canada I believe and it isn't here yet. So I guess what I really want is to have my bat under the tree for Christmas. My mom and sister told me that it never came yet, I really hope they are kidding.

I would also love not having to solve a riddle in order to open my presents. You see when I was in seven grade my mom thought that it would be a great idea to make us solve a riddle before we could actually open our presents. Ever since then the present opening has become exceedingly difficult. My mom finds great joy in the whole process, while my siblings and I struggle through Christmas morning. Oh course my dad video tapes the whole thing going down and I look like I have been hit by train because my sister gets us up at the crack of dawn still. So I shudder to think of what might happen when my dad decides to pull out all those tapes years later. I should probably get rid of those sometime....

Hmm what else do I want for Christmas? I want to see my two year old cousin tear into his presents. I want to watch my Uncle Jimmy's face when my dad gives him a pair of headphones that we found in the Walmart parking lot in Altoona.

But more importantly I want everyone to get along and to have a safe, happy Christmas. I also want to get all of my AP Bio done over the holiday, but that probably won't happen. That's pretty much just wishful thinking. Well I hope everyone has a great Christmas break and everyone gets what they want!! Merry Christmas everybody!!

    1. Michaela,
Congrats on a new softball bat. Those are always nice to get. I also think that it is really funny that your dad is giving your uncle headphones from a Walmart parking lot. I bet his reaction will be great. I think having to solve a riddle is a fun way to spend Christmas morning. It is pretty funny. I know how you feel about bio. Never gonna happen. I hope you have a good and safe Christmas too, Michaela.

  3. What do I want for Christmas?

Well let’s see. I think the thing that I want most for Christmas is new books. Even, though I have a list three pages long of ones I haven’t read yet it is never enough. I don’t know why, but I have a serious problem with collecting books. I just need them I to stay sane I guess. So I think that is what I asked for most.

I also asked for some new Pittsburgh Penguins gear this year. That stuff isn’t cheap though. I don’t actually know if I will get any of that. It’s pretty unlikely because even though it is Christmas I don’t particularly care for spending an arm and a leg on gifts. I love the Pens so a new t shirt or something would be nice. I just got a new hat from my uncle so that was pretty sweet.

I don’t really know what else I want. I guess a lot of music. I asked for more Cds this year than I usually do, but I love music. Those would definitely be a nice surprise under the tree.

I don’t actually ask for all that much for Christmas, I guess. I am just hoping that everyone has a really great holiday that they can spend with family and friends. I hope their Christmas is merry and bright!

I really hope you get a lot more books to add to your overflowing library at home. Haha! You can never have enough books! YOLO! Haha! I hope you also get some Penguin "gear". That would be spiffy! Music is amazing, so yes you should get some! I hope you have a very Merry Christmas, Megz! And I hope you get what you want!

  4. Hmm....what do I want for Christmas?

I had trouble answering this question when my mom asked and I am still having trouble answering this question.

This is the first year that I haven't had anything major that I wanted. For the past couple years. I've gotten one big present, an iPod, a new camera, a Playstation...

But this year there isn't anything like that.

So I'm sure I'll be getting lots of clothes which, hey, is more then okay with me.

There are a few video games that I want. Assassins Creed Black Flag and Child of Eden...so getting those would be nice too.

Mostly though I just want to have a really nice holiday with my family. My brother is moving to Texas next year which means I don't really know what next year's Christmas is going to bring. I'm used to him being home for a month, spending our nights in the living room with two TV's set up playing video games together. I'm going to miss that a lot. So really what I want most for this. Christmas is just to have a wonderful, stress free holiday where we just enjoy each other's company.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

Merry Christmas to our wonderful AP Lit class :)

    1. Danielle Healy,

I know how you feel. This year I'm just thinking, "Hmmm... College stuff, I guess?" Haha! Nothing too special. It sucks getting old. Haha! I hope you get some fun video games. And I especially hope that you have a great holiday with your family, friends, and Tyler. I think it is so cool that you have such a close bond with him. That is awesome! Enjoy your holiday! Merry Christmas!

P.S. You should read my fan-fiction. Hehe!

    2. I know how you feel about your brother. Me and Luke sleep in the same room and stay up for hours talking about the stupidest things. But now that he's gone its weird. Black Flag would be sweet to have too but my mom and dad probably won't let me get that. Nice job!

  5. Since all I want for Christmas in the real world is boring college materials and money, I decided to compose what I want for Christmas in the literary world. This is my Christmas fan-fiction of the some of the literary characters that have been in our novels in AP English Literature thus far. I hope you enjoy!

The young boy skipped through the white, fluffy flakes that lazily descended from the sky. He skeptically reached out toward them, wondering what they could be. He had never seen it before. His body then gave a little shiver, as the weather was unseasonably cold.

He reached the front door of the cozy, small cottage that he and his family called their home. He could not wait to enter inside of the warm abode as he threw open the door, and cried, “Jim! I’m home!”

The African American man at the stove turned his head to greet the young boy who had entered. “Well, it ‘bout time ya got your butt home!” he teasingly scolded with a wide grin.

“Aw, Jim! I was lookin’ at the weird white stuff outside. What do you reckon it is?”

Jim just shook his head with a chuckle, and looked over lovingly at his wife, who frying apple fritters on the stove next to him. She returned her husband’s gaze and leaned over for a small kiss. “It be the first time the young fella seen snow, I reckon,” she said with a light laugh.

“I’d say so,” Jim replied, wrapping an arm around her. “Huck, why don’ ya set the table? We got some visitors comin’.”

“Sure, Jim!” The boy hastily trotted over to the large, wooden table that was already covered in a fancy, red tablecloth.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Jim’s wife frantically glanced at the clock. “We got some early visitors. Come on in!” she called to the arrivals.

The door opened, and a gust of chilly wind blew in. A tall man and a small, slender woman appeared in the doorway. “Merry Christmas, Jim!” the man bellowed with a cheerful smile and a French accent.

“Merry Christmas, Mr. Carton!” Jim replied with a jolly smile. “Come on in!”

Mr. Carton guided the young woman next to him into the kitchen. She was a simple kind of pretty with blond hair and sparkly blue eyes. She tightly held Mr. Carton’s hand as if she was holding on for dear life. “Merry Christmas!” she softly greeted.

“Well!” Jim exclaimed in joy. “Merry Christmas, young missus! Come righ’ on in!”

“Thank you, Jim! You’re home is simply stunning!” the man complimented.

“Well, thank ya’ll,” his wife replied. “Huck really helps us wit da place.”

“Merry Christmas, Mr. and Mrs. Carton!” Huck suddenly came into the picture. “Your seats are right here.” He motioned to two china platters that were beautifully set up on the large table.

“Well, thank you, lad,” Mr. Carton said. “The place looks splendid!”

He then guided his small wife over to the table, and they both took their seats.

“Can I offer you any wine, Sydney?” Jim asked, gesturing to a gleaming bottle of red wine perched on the table.

“Oh, no! That’s quite all right, Jim. I am trying to stay away from drinks.” He looked down at his pretty wife, and gave her hand a squeeze. She smiled a dazzling grin in reply.

Suddenly, there was another knock on the door.

“Oh, dear!” Jim’s wife fussed. “More early visitors. Come in!”

The door swung open, and another tall man dressed in fine clothing walked in with a girl at his side.

    1. “Rodion!” Jim and Mr. Carton exclaimed in delight. “Welcome! Merry Christmas!”

“Merry Christmas!” the man greeted in a thick Russian accent.

“Merry Christmas!” the timid young woman by his side echoed.

“Oh, Merry Christmas, Sonia! We’re so glad you’s was able to join us for Christmas this year,” Jim’s wife sweetly said.

Mr. Carton stood up from his seat to shake the hand of the man who just entered. “You look great, Rodion. How are you feeling?”

A smile cracked on the Russian man’s lips. “Much better, Sydney. Thank you for inquiring.”

“Have a seat,” Huck invited the Russian couple to the table.

“Thank you, Huck,” Sonia softly thanked him as she and Raskolnikov sat in their seats.

“Dinner is almost done!” Jim’s wife announced. She began to set down Southern dishes on the table as everyone took their designated spots.

“It looks delicious, Mrs. Jim!” Sydney Carton heartily admired.

“Why thank ya, Mr. Carton,” she replied, blushing. “I hope ya’ll enjoy.”

Jim sat down next to Huck, and accidentally knocked over a salt shaker. Huck swiftly picked up some of the spilled grains and tossed them over his left shoulder. Jim chuckled and patted Huck’s shoulder in praise.

“And here is the last dish,” Jim wife’s set down a platter of apple fritters decorated with green trimmings.

“Oh, boy! I can’ wait to dive in!” Huck said excitedly.

“Before we do so, we have to say grace,” Jim proclaimed dutifully. “Rodion,” he addressed the man with the dark hair and eyes, “would you mind leadin’ us in grace?”

“It would be my pleasure,” he replied. He turned to the young woman at his side and her entire face lit up, her big eyes widening in admiration and happiness. “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen. Thank you, God, for gathering us all here on this Christmas Day…”

And that is what I want for my literary Christmas! That would be the best story ever! Haha! Merry Christmas, everyone!

    2. Rachel,

      I love you :)

I was grinning that whole time especially because I feel like I have missed Huck and Jim so terribly. Was the girl with Carton Lucy or the girl from the end of the story who got hanged? I couldn't tell. I want it to be the girl who was with him before he died because she was cool and I never cared much for Lucy.

Oh how I want Raskolnikov to be good...

Nice story, Rachel! I loved it :)

  6. As I get older I find it harder and harder to think of what I want for Christmas. I think that as I get older I start to just enjoy spending time with my family, and focus less and less on the material objects that I want.

This year for Christmas I am hoping to get an espresso machine. I enjoy making lattes and mochas, so I asked for one to take with me to college. I also asked for some flavoring syrups that I need to make them.

I also asked for speakers for my music since my other set broke from being let outside.

Overall, I just hope to have a great vacation and spend time with my family. I hope that everyone has a great Christmas.

    2. Kraus,

You left your speakers outside? Haha bummer.

I can totally relate on finding it harder and harder to thinks of things I like for Christmas. The time with family is priceless and I hate thinking how I may have overlooked it in the past.

Do you want a Keurig? I wish I liked coffee just so I could get on.

How you get everything you want! Merry Christmas!

    3. That would be a key pickup. Expresso and speakers. I need speakers for my car too.

    4. Kraus,

I have never been a real big fan of coffee, but an espresso machine sounds nice. I could all use some speakers myself now that I think about it. Merry Christmas!

  7. Dear AP Lit,
I am happy to read these blogs. They are each so telling of your personalities! Rachel, I really enjoyed your fan fiction! What a fun way to tie all of our favorite characters together. And I am sensing a festive imaginary party that involves lattes, riddles, music, reading, video games, and some guitar strumming. Merry Christmas!
